Hi Everyone -
In reference to my letter dated 31 August 2003 titled, "Estes Surname DNA
Project", we have had some questions over various topics and I will attempt to
answer them.
The ESTES Surname DNA Project Testing is being conducted by:
Family Tree DNA - Genealogy by Genetics, Ltd.
World Headquarters
1919 North Loop West, Suite 110 Houston, Texas 77008, USA
Phone: (713) 868-1438 | Fax: (713) 868-4584
They are largest testing facility of its kind in the USA.
If you will go to
http://www.familytreedna.com/ and look at the top ypou
will find:
ORDERING, PROJECTS, TESTIMONIALS, PRIVACY, FAQ, ABOUT
Click on --ORDERING- and scroll down and you will find a price chart. The 12
marker kit does not satisfy our needs and we need the Y-DNA Plus - 25 marker
kit. Notice the price for this is $229.00. However, since you are enrolling in
a group project, we get the Kit at a discounted rate for the Y-DNA-Plus 25
marker kit for $169.00.
At the top of the page click on Projects. In addition to other information,
find the chart that shows E 10. Click on this and there are the names of the
DNA Projects beginning with E. Scroll down the list and click on Estes. Now you
have the Estes Surname DNA Project
Description: This project serves multiple purposes; to identify the various
Estes lines descending from the immigrant, Abraham Estes of Virginia and to
compare all of the Estes/Eastes, Este, d'Este Eustace lines worldwide and
eventually, to attempt to confirm or dispel the myth of the Italian Renaissance Estes
family roots.
Surnames in Project:, d'Este, Eastes, Este, Estes, East & Eustace
Estes Project Join Request (Instructions for completing the form)
You just fill in the form below to request to join this project. Your
information will be sent to the Project's Administrator, who will get in touch with
you regarding your request. If the project Administrator and you agree that you
should be part of the project, you will be given a web address and a "join
code" which will allow you to join the project and to order DNA tests at reduced
prices.
Once enrolled. You receive a kit through the mail with two sets of vials and
two sticks incased in sterile housing that looks like a tooth brush. The
instructions will tell you to scrub the inside of your cheek with a brush and
stick it into a sterile vial and break off the unneeded handle and seal the vial.
You do the same with the second stick and seal it into the second vial. Just
in case one is not good they have the second swab to work with. .Once the two
vials are sealed, you just mail it back to Family Tree DNA. When the testing is
complete., they will send you the results.
Many other questions may be answered by referring to the PRIVACY and FAQ,
links shown at the top of the home page.
Drop me a line anytime if there are other questions.
Best Regards
Roy Eastes
