I'm sending this inquiry to the major lists I subscribe to, hoping I will
hear from as many people as possible.
I've read a lot about "Time line software" - computer programs that will
insert prominent world events into a family tree when constructed as a
timeline. The concept seems very alluring. For example, it would be
interestingly helpful to know that Thomas Edison invented the electric
lightbulb one year after Aunt Hattie went blind from reading in the dark or
that Uncle Bill was killed in a car crash five years after the first Model T
rolled off of Henry Ford's Assembly line.
(Lest you think I am only interested in product liability, one of my
ancestors was due to leave South Hampton for America on the Titanic, but
missed the boat and had to come over several weeks later. At the time she
was distraught. However, upon her safe arrival in the U.S. she was thankful
for that fateful day and her memoirs of it are priceless.)
I have heard of such "Time line software' programs on the market, but don't
know a lot about them. I'm asking for comments from subscribers who have had
experience with these programs. What is your experience and which ones do
you like and dislike?
If you don't want to post to the entire list, you may e-mail me directly with
your opinions.
