Beginning March 2nd, 2020 the Mailing Lists functionality on RootsWeb will be discontinued. Users will no longer be able to send outgoing emails or accept incoming emails. Additionally, administration tools will no longer be available to list administrators and mailing lists will be put into an archival state.
Administrators may save the emails in their list prior to March 2nd. After that, mailing list archives will remain available and searchable on RootsWeb
My Grant Co. email from rootsweb's L-Grant Co. list DOES say that it is from this list.
On the top of my screen is a list of emails received from various sources. The Grant Co. list emails in this section give the identification of the individual who sent the email to rootsweb's Grant Co. list.
However, the heading on the lower part of the screen where the content of an email is displayed reads INGRANT-L(a)rootsweb.com for each email from this list.
I'm just reporting, not understanding -
Bobbi Chapman
Like all of you I've also wondered why INGrant is not part of the subject
line. I think of all the county lists I belong to all over the US. Grant Co.
is the only one that does not do this..... Maybe we will have to start
typing it in ourselves.

This is exactly what I'm saying. I've been getting viruses for years
through these lists. The notion that it's not possible is absurd.
BUT, a big part of the issue is that I delete an email if it doesn't pertain
to me. This is why one of my pet peeves is people who don't change a
subject line to fit their email. If they insist on keeping the old subject
line, I and others may miss something important to their own research.
Anyway, this seems to be happening with more than the Grant County list.
Hopefully rootsweb will be alerted to the problem and straighten it out
before too long. In the meantime, if people are in doubt, they can right
click on the email (without opening it), click on Properties, choose the
Details tab and see if it came through the rootsweb system. If it did, it's
most likely safe - no guarantee.
Like you, I wouldn't dream of going on line without Norton.

You're reply to me is a perfect example of my pet peeve: it came only to

Please don't ever think you won't get a virus sent to you from lists such

almost always from someone who has had some affiliation with one of these
lists. Thanks heavens our Norton AV always catches them.

I agree with Betty 100%.....I usually don't open mail unless I recognize the sender....I receive mail for Delaware and Huntington counties to name only two....they are identified. Mary Ann

How come the e-mail coming from this web site, doesn't indicate INGRANT-L
rather than the individual name. I do not open mail unless I know the sender.
When it is coming from the name of the sender instead of INGRANT-L I usually
don't open the mail as I have no idea where it is coming from. Betty

Also, when you hit the reply button, it sends the reply to the person who

Do you mean in Indiana, or anywhere in general? Because New York City was

Thanks all of you for your kind help.
My father was at Whites I believe sometime between 1910 and 1915. Do any of you know
who I could contact for this Information ?
Thankfully, Alice
There is a White's Institute in Wabash County, near Lafontaine, Indiana. It
is still in existence today but I believe that it has changed its name. It
began I think as a an orphanage and later became a home for troubled teens
also.

Alice and Mary,
During what years did the Orphans Home operate?

Reading through some old letters from a Great-Great Uncle of mine who was
raised just north of Rigdon (which was then called Independence). He is
reminiscing about one of his deceased uncles or cousins who
"...used to operate a saw mill near "Norvoo" (probably have mispelled it)
over west of Independence..."
[The words in parentheses are his.]
I can't see anything on a current map, nor on any old maps, that might
suggest where this "Norvoo" was.
Anybody here got a clue?
Thanks,
Tom
