Hello list members:
I am new to this list and need some help. I am trying to help my niece find
out about her fathers family. She is 28 and has only seen her father twice
and that was enough for her. She would like to find out about her fathers
family. He Grandfather was James Shipley. He was born October 12, 1921 and
died July 1984. We know the family was in Grant County as early as 1950's as
her father James Randall "Randy" Shipley was born in 1953. Her Grandmother
was Dorothy "Dottie" Unknown. If you can be of any help please let me know.
Anyone researching the Shipley name please contact me.

Me, too, Shirl, but I received it through a County list....My McAfee virus
program never flinched. I did, unwittingly, open the attachment from a
fellow who was going to supply the list with Probate Will information. What
a bummer. I made it to Staple's 2 minutes before they closed and bought
Norton's whole suite. Thank heavens for that product :) It took me a
couple hours to clean up the virus from the other list - and then another
BadTrans32 hit, but this time Norton's eradicated it. Such a good feeling
to get rid of the "Worm" :) (I've uninstalled my McAfee program.)
It is too bad that there are hackers out there creating - yes, actually
thinking up these problems. Weird way to get your jollies, I think.
Good luck to you all.

I've gotten this attachment several times and have deleted it each time.
I NEVER open attachments unless I send them to myself for transport. I
find it hard to believe that this executed on its own.

PLEASE READ ALL OF THIS.
I recieved a virus when I opened an email that was in response to one of my rootsweb queries. I did NOT have to open the attachment!
This virus is called: W32.Badtrans.13312@mm and attacks your exe files.
NOTE: McAfee DID NOT find this virus. Damage was done before I installed my Norton. Norton found it and repaired.
Since it came through Rootsweb and I had only to open the response to my query, I can't tell you how to avoid it.
However, I use Outlook Express email and my email program sent and resent my own mail to me over and over. Other people have recieved mail from me that the virus sent out automatically from my address book. WORSE YET, it went to people NOT in my address book and that I have never had any contact with.
I'm sorry for any inconvenience this has cause anyone - it appears to be random and unavoidable. Someone has found a way to infiltrate our wonderful Rootsweb system but I think it's time Rootsweb did something about it. If some of our server's programs can catch this virus, as I'm hearing back, I would think Rootsweb could too.
