Thanks for passing that on. I'm still waiting to see if I get a response
from my query to the funeral home in Upland about the Jefferson Cemetery
records.

In 1790 ther Northwest Territory comprised what is now Ohio, Indiana,
Illinois and Michigan. There were three counties --- Hamilton (OH), Knox
(IN) and St. Clair (IL).
In 1800 Indiana Territory was formed. The formation of counties continued
until the last of the Indian territories was taken in the mid 1800s. Grant
was formed in 1831.

Listers,
I forwarded a note posted on an Illinois list about 'Capitalists' and notified the person who originally wrote the note that I had
done so. I also gave that person credit. Now I'm informed that I have not only failed to have that in the subject line in my
personal note to her but it is against Roots rules to forward other people's notes ..."copy rights and all". As a writer, it was my
understanding that as long as you give the 'author' credit, you can quote them but perhaps Roots doesn't even allow this. We need
to know - otherwise, we can't share bits of information between lists without rewriting it and taking the credit ourselves. Would
someone please clarify this for me in regards to Rootsweb.
In addition, if it isn't allowed, please accept my sincerest apologies and I take it back. *g*

On another list in Illinois, the question came up as to what the occupation for some people is when listed as a "capitalist". I've
not run into this before but somewhere along the line we're bound to see it. One of the listers came back with this, which I found
not only interesting, but helpful. Read on -
In a message dated 4/2/01 8:10:40 PM, deverondee(a)earthlink.net writes:
<< Capitalist >>
First appeared 1792
1 : a person who has capital esp. invested in business; broadly : a person
of wealth.
After years of working on the farm and other economic ventures many would
retire to town and become lenders to others including family members. Most
lived off payments made by family members for the purchase of the family farm
and other investments etc.
That is probably what they are indicating by Capitalist. He likely was a
hard working individual and attained the capital by the sweat of his brow.
Many others lost their farms and all investments during the same time period
because of the risk they took.
Today many socialists use entrepreneur because they think in terms of Karl
Marx who classified individuals into the stereotypical "Capitalist". There
is a stigma attached to being a "Capitalist" for those of Socialist and
Communist schools. Who would rid us of personal ownership and centralize the
state.
entrepreneur: one who organizes, manages, and assumes the risks of a business
or enterprise

I recently purchased a hardbound copy of the book, The Descendants of George
Renbarger (1760-1852) of Grant County, Indiana and am willing to do a few
look-ups for people who are interested. The book was written by Lucy Marie
(Renbarger) Kimball and later edited by Dakin and Jennifer Burdick. It was
published by Gateway Press, Baltimore.
After I have finished with the book, I would like to donate it to either the
Grant County Historical Society, the Marion Public Library or the Gas City
Public Library. If there is anyone on the list affiliated with any of these
organizations, please contact me.
Thanks,
Larry Jones
I know that Grant County was formed from Delaware County in 1831. But I have
read that the area was once part of Knox County. That seems unusual to me
since present day Knox County is rather far away from Grant. I have old maps
of Indiana showing Knox County to be where it is today. Delaware county is
also where it is today, just larger in size because my maps are from the late
1820's. Does anyone have a map or a reference to a map showing that present
day Grant County was once part of Knox County? Thanks.
Larry
I recently found information on Ancestry.com concerning a 1901-1902 Grant
County, Indiana Direcatory. I was wondering if anyone could elaborate on
what the information meant. The information is the following:
Name- WOLARY, Henry hrs
Page #- 822
Post Office- Swayzee
Acres- 31 1/2
Thank you,
Dan Woolary
I'm passing on info that I got from Quaker Roots. If you had
ancestors passing through Henricks Co., IN (the county just
west of Marion Co. (Indianapolis), you might check this site:
http://history.plainfield.lib.in.us
This is the Plainfield library. At the bottom of its home page on the right side, you'll find cemetery/obituary databases. The
obituaries are not just recent ones. Sounds like a good library
with volunteers helping to spread its information on-line.
