Hi to the group. My great-grandfather, John George Bowman, left Grant
Co. about 1870. My great-grandmother, Rosannah Coppock Diltz Bowman,
died in Kent, IN about 1875. John George is then in Berry Co., MO by
1880. He is in Indian Territory, OK by 1890 and dies at the Civil War
Veterans Home in KS in 1905.
His migration pattern was:
PA>OH>IN>MO>OK>KS
Maybe this will help someone in their search.
Kathryn
Henry Jones worked in the tin mill in Gas City. He moved his family to
Morgantown, West Virginia, definitely not long after the turn of the
century.

Hello list, here are some of the results of my query about destinations
out of Grant Co after the gas boom ended:
Oklahoma and the oil fields were the destination of some members of the
Boxell, Stackhouse and Corey families.
Coffeyville, Kansas was the destination of some members of the Coahran,
Hasty and Mohler families. Another list member volunteered that the
Fairmont News (which is on microfilm) had small snippets here and there
about who had traveled where and sometimes would list things like "Where
are they located". If you are in the area, the Fairmont News appears to
be good reading and possibly has helpful information.
McClain family migrated to Maricopa Co, Arizona about the turn of the
century.
Another list member has posted that her great-grandfather was employed
by the WPA in Grant Co. That is an interesting thought - does anyone
know where a list of workers employed by the WPA might be found?
If anyone else has suggestions about migration patterns in Grant Co, IN
please post them to the list. Hope someone finds something useful here.

My grandma just told me a couple of weeks ago that she remembered her father
being on W.P.A.( Workers Progress Administration) in Grant County, IN during
WWII when he couldn't work at the glass factory any more. Someone told me
to search www.loc.gov , but the link is down indefinitely. Should I
contact Grant County for information? If so, what agency should I try and
exactly what information will I be getting, if successful. I s there a
specific form I should request?
Confused, as usual,
