Hi,
I need some help locating my ggrandmother's grave. On my ggrandfather's
Civil War papers she is listed as dying in Kent, Indiana. Is there a
Kent town and a Kent Co. in IN?
Also, my ggrandparents were married by a Methodist Minister as were
another Bowman couple. The names of the ministers wereWheat and Conn.
Does anyone have data on them?

Hi folks. I am looking for people who have family members buried at Zion
Chapel Cemetery, Delaware County, Indiana. It is just a little east of
Summitville across the county line, and a half mile west of the rest area on
I-69. I have recently adopted this cemetery and am working on biographies on
each family buried there. If any of the following names ring a bell, please
contact me. Feel free to visit my site for more information. Hopefully we can
tie up some loose ends together.

There is quite an article in the book, "The Making of a Township,
Grant County Indiana", on a Lucas family, with picture. Have you seen
it? It is written in parts by many residence, about the forming of the
community, it's people and development of the land, education, daily
lives, underground railroad, etc. This book was updated and reprinted
a few years ago. Well worth the money.
I made that phone call again this evening, and found a favorable
response from the member of the genealogy group from Marion, IN. She
is going to join this list, and will get a listing of books together
for us.
Send your Grant County, Indiana lineage's to her, and she said she
will begin a second volume of GRANT COUNTY CONNECTIONS. THANKS JUNE.
Send your lineage's to:

Hi! Sorry, no, the MCLEANs are on hubby's side and his father was from
Scotland! Wish I could link to him--that would be fun. But my MCCLAIN
ancestors in Grant County were James S. MCCLAIN and his family:
Descendants of James S. McClain
1 James S. McClain b: March 03, 1845 in Stark County, Ohio d:
April 25, 1913 in Marion, Grant County, Indiana
.. +Ellen Lucy Sizer b: August 08, 1846 in Mantua, Ohio m: June 02,
1868 in Ravenna, Portage County, Ohio d: February 26, 1923 in Marion, Grant
County, Indiana Father: Horace Sizer, Jr. Mother: Lucy Gillett Ladd
......... 2 Samuel Dallas McClain b: May 07, 1869 in Ashland County,
Ohio
......... 2 Nellie Eunice McClain b: March 14, 1871 in Ashland County,
Ohio d: 1940 in Marion, Grant County, Indiana
......... 2 James Horace McClain b: October 26, 1874 in Hartford City,
Indiana d: April 25, 1913 in Marion, Grant County, Indiana
............. +Ada Belle Burleigh b: June 26, 1882 in Indiana d:
August 03, 1911 in Marion, Grant County, Indiana
......... 2 Eva Florence McClain b: August 31, 1876 in Marion, Grant
County, Indiana d: June 04, 1952 in Marion, Grant County, Indiana
............. +William Lambert Carey b: January 01, 1877 in Marion,
Grant County, Indiana m: December 16, 1896 in Marion, Grant County, Indiana
d: March 22, 1951 in Marion, Grant County, Indiana Father: Elias Carey
Mother: Huldah Overman
......... 2 Cora Margaret McClain b: October 23, 1881 in Marion, Grant
County, Indiana d: May 29, 1890 in Marion, Grant County, Indiana
James S. MCCLAIN (the S. probably stood for Samuel) was a descendant of
charles MCCLAIN b. 1712 in Ireland>Monmouth NJ> Fayette Co. PA> Washington
Co. PA, thus:
Direct Descendants of Charles McClain
1 Charles McClain b: Abt. 1712 in Ireland d: August 16, 1808 in
Fayette County, Pennsylvania
.. +Lydia Cheeseman b: March 31, 1734 in Monmouth, New Jersey m:
July 11, 1751 in Monmouth, New Jersey Father: Joseph Cheeseman
Mother: Hendrickje
......... 2 Samuel McClain b: 1770 in Monmouth County, New Jersey
d: 1820 in Washington County, Pennsylvania
............. +Margaret Gaston b: 1771 in Delaware? d: 1853
in Washington County, Pennsylvania Father: John Gaston Mother: Charity
Cheeseman
.................... 3 Samuel McClain b: Abt. 1808 in Washington
County, Pennsylvania d: Aft. 1860 in Ashland County, Ohio
........................ +Margaret Stevenson b: Abt. 1805 in Pigeon
Creek, Washington County, Pennsylvania m: Abt. 1834 in Washington County,
Pennsylvania d: Abt. 1851 in Probably Lawrence Twp., Stark County, Ohio
Father: John Stevenson Mother: Elizabeth Stevenson
............................... 4 James S. McClain b: March 03, 1845 in
Stark County, Ohio d: April 25, 1913 in Marion, Grant County, Indiana
This line APPEARS to be a different line from the one you are researching.
Last I heard, no one knew where in PA your John MCCLAIN hailed from. My
James' father, Samuel, was of the same generation--but he had a brother John
who died childless in Ashland County, Ohio. It's possible Samuel was cousin
to your John, but I've not seen a John among Charles' descendants yet who
fits the bill. hope this helps.

Thanks Roy, You are so right.
PLEASE LOOK AT ROY'S MESSAGE, AT THE BOTTOM OF THIS POST.
We need to check undocumented references for details, particularly if
we don't know where the information came from. This goes without
saying. You have a valid point.
One thing to recognize in our lineage's from Grant County, IN, is that
most were Quaker, of which the men in the families kept ongoing records
through the generations, and we find they line up with MM records, that
are available for our inspection. With the Quaker, one can be
confident they were as precise as they could be, and in my estimation,
far more accurate than a lot of other avenues.
We have a wonderful heritage. Yes, we take pride in our research, and
in sharing. We do need to back up what we find. I do this out of
love of family, and a passion for recording it. I am neither
professional, nor an expert.
Please Roy, feel free to pop in with assistance, if you can help
anyone with their lineage, or with a little history that may benefit
all of us.
Sincerely,
Gini
