I took a quick look at my book "Family Maps of Gibson County,
Indiana" by
Gregory A. Boyd, J.D., Arphax Publishing Co.
www.arphax.com. The main list
of surnames in Gibson County Patents [the book data is based on Bureau of
Land Management General Land Office original land patents] shows MILLS has
six land parcels. Three parcels are in map group 5 2nd PM 1-S 10-W
[meridian/township/range]. Two parcels are in map group 19 2nd PM 3-S
10-W. One parcel is in map group 13 2nd PM 2-S 9-W. It appears James MILLS
is the MILLS on Patent Map Group 5 with three parcels. It is in Section 23
and dates issued are 1835-09-05 and 1837-08-01. What is nice about these
maps is you can see their neighbors on the map. In Section 23, his
neighbors are John Marshall and John Amos. Just over the line into Section
22 next to him is Robert Tales and John Lance. The MILLS in map group 19
is Samuel C. Mills. The MILLS in map group 13 is Daniel Mills. I can give
you more details on these two MILLS if you need them.
I really like these map books! Note: I do not have MILLS in my family
