Hi, I have a (well several, but working on one now) mysterious ancestor
that I have been working on for several years. She is Phoebe Crabtree,
Aug 24, 1825-Jan 27, 1894, md John Saulman on Feb 25, 1842 in Edwards CO.,
IL. Several think this this Phoebe belonged to a John and Isabell
Madding Crabtree who were in Edwards CO at the time. I think she is a
daughter of John H. Crabtree (b. 1784 in Randolph CO., NC, lived in
Christian CO., KY and came to IN about 1814). Phoebe and John Saulman did
live in Posey CO and Gibson Counties-both are buried in the Saulman Cem.
Near Stewartsville, IN. She probably died in Gibson CO. I can find no
death records on her in Posey or Gibson Counties. At Princeton (Gibson
CO), I was told there was a doctor there in the late 1800's who was
responsible for recording births/deaths. The doctor didn't always do this,
and did go over to Mt. Carmel and evidently took a lot of the records with
him.
John H. is a brother to my gr-gr-gr-grandfather, William
Crabtree, first md to Sarah Bennett-buried in Stewartsville-then md to
Elizabeth Hurt. I am from Sarah "Sally". Wm is probably buried at
Saulman, he died before Elizabeth and she is buried there.
If anyone can help, please email. This is a mystery I'd
like to solve in my lifetime, and not solve it when I meet up with Phoebe on
the other side. (smile). Thanks.
