Hello! I am new to this list, so please forgive me if some of this is a
repeat! I am looking for any information regarding William ALVIS and his
wife (Mary) Elizabeth STUCKY.
William ALVIS was born about 1820 either in Indiana or Kentucky and was a
cooper, according to the Davies County 1850 census. My mother's aunt
(now deceased) said that he and his wife were married 17 Feb 1845, but I
have no confirmation of the date & no location. I also have no death
information at all!
His wife, (Mary) Elizabeth STUCKY was born in 1820 or 1821 in Indiana to
Frederick Stucky and Elizabeth Love. {Frederick and Elizabeth were from
the Petersburgh, IN area & I will be happy to post what information I
have if anyone is interested.} (Mary) Elizabeth Stucky Alvis died 27
June 1889 in Patoka. She is supposed to be buried in Oakl Hill Cemetary
in Patoka, but I wasn't able to find her grave when I visited there. I
DO have a death certificate for her.
William and (Mary) Elizabeth had 5 children that I know of:
Mary Alvis (who married Benjamin Bishop) b: 21 Sept 1846, d: 27 June 1867
Thomas K or R: b: 1848
John W b: Dec 1849 or Jan 1850
William H. b: about 1858
R.A. (male) b: about Nov 1859
Mary Alvis and Benjamin Bishop are my great-great-grandparents and I have
a picture of them in their later years.
I can't seem to find other information on William ALVIS & would
appreciate any help anyone can give. Note that William ALVIS is listed
in the 1850 census for DAVIES County, and the 1860 census for Patoka,
White River Township, GIBSON County, IN, but that daughter Mary was born
in Patoka, Gibson County in 1846, according to my mother's aunt. I
wonder if the family was in Gibson County, moved to Davies, and then back
to Gibson ... or if Mom's aunt's information is incorrect and Mary was
actually born in Davies CO?
Thank you for any help you might be able to give! Would love to hear
from anyone else researching this line.
Marti
