Linda,
Don't know if this will be of any help or not, but I'll give it a
shot.
I assume that you are familiar with the published histories of
Gibson County. One that I have is published by Tartt and another
is by Stormont. Both of these have excellent biographies on
early settlers. If you have not reviewed these two books, I
suggest you do so (I do not wish to insult you and assume you
have already done this, but just in case you have not, I bring it
up).
I checked my copy of Tartt's book and found reference to Andrew
and Betsy on page 62. Here it says that: "He was married three
times and was the father of seventeen children. The maiden name
of his last wife was Elizabeth Pane...". It later mentions the
three children he had by Betsy. No mention is made of any other
children she may have had. From the dates you give, if she did
have children by another marriage, they would have been older
than 17 when she removed to Gibson County (1793 too 1810). They
may then have stayed behind in KY.
Sorry, what I present is not necessarily what you are looking
for, but thought I would toss it out as food for thought.
Sometimes, when someone questions me, I realize I have overlooked
something obvious. Doubt if that is the case here, but I'll take
a stab at it.
You still have several cousins here in Gibson County, so you may
keep trying and someone may be able to shed more light on it.
Good luck, and maybe something will turn up here on the list
soon.
Chawn

Subject: ANDREW GUDGELL AND ELIZABETH "BETSY" PAYNE
Hi folks. I'm sure glad to finally see a mail list up and
running for
Gibson Co.
I have been researching the surname GUDGEL for many years and am
interested
in more information on Andrew GUDGEL and his 3rd wife, Elizabeth
"Betsy"
PAYNE. Andrew and Elizabeth "Betsy" married in 1793 in Woodford
Co., KY and
went to Gibson Co., IN about 1810/11. Elizabeth "Betsy" is said
to have
been a young widow with children when she married Andrew. He was
66 and she
was 30. I have a copy of their marriage bond from Woodford Co.,
KY.
Andrew died in 1815 and Elizabeth died in 1823. Both are buried
in Gibson
Co. in the family cemetery. Does anyone know who Elizabeth's
PAYNE children
were? They must have gone to Gibson Co. with Andrew and
Elizabeth as they
were young. Family lore says that Elizabeth's maiden name may
have been PAUL.
Any help or comments appreciated on this or related families.
