Suzanne,
I might be able to lend a little help. My aunt married into a
branch of the Crawford family. However, this is not my direct
line, so I do not have a whole lot of info.
What I am aware of, is that the Crawfords were at one time
residing in White River Twp., in the town of Patoka. At some
point in the mid-1800s, some of the family relocated to the
eastern part of the county, southeast of Oakland City. At that
time, I am not sure where the border with Warrick County may have
been. One member of the family, Holly Crawford, acquired a
considerable amount of land in this area, in both Gibson and Pike
counties. My Aunt still has the original land patent from
President Buchanan, I believe, of the land where they settled. A
log cabin was constructed on one parcel of land, which was handed
down through her husband's family. As a child, I spent many
hours in the cabin and "playing" on this farm. At one time, I
believe, Holly Crawford acquired title to this whole section. I
happen to reside on the southeastern side of Oakland City, on the
northwest quarter of this section, directly opposed to the
southeast quarter, where the log cabin is. The abstract to my
property, discusses Holly Crawford, and his relatives.
Another excellent source to see this ground is a re-print copy of
the 1881 plat map for Gibson and Pike counties. You will see
many parcels with the name Crawford in the southeast part of
Columbia Township and across the county line in Pike County. I
am not aware of the family holding land south of here in Barton
Township and on down into Warrick County, but it is not all that
far, and is quite possible that a member or members of the family
did hold land there.
Hope this helps some.
Chawn

Subject: [INGIBSON] Andrew J. Crawford
Warrick & Gibson County Crawfords:
There is a marriage record for an Andrew J. Crawford to
Elizabeth Hargrave in Warrick County on November 7, 1821.
According to Hargrave researchers
she was the daughter of William Hargrave of Warrick County.
Bureau of Land Management - General Land Office Records show
a land patent dated November 15, 1826 for Andrew J. Crawford
of Warrick County, Indiana.
The land was located in Gibson County. Another patent dated
May 10, 1828 refers to him as Andrew J. Crawford of Gibson
County so we know he had made
the move to Gibson County after the first purchase in 1826.
There were no patents for anyone of the Crawford name in
Warrick County.
This is most probably the fellow from the above marriage
record.
