Hi-- for several years now I have been trying to find where a Phoebe Crabtree (md to John
Saulman) fits. Her father was John Crabtree (I think), but there happens to be two
John Crabtrees, about the same age. Phoebe and John Saulman are buried in the Saulman
cemetery, Phoebe died Jan 27, 1894. Since death records in IN were kept (or
supposed to have been kept) from 1882 on, there should be something at Princeton or Mt.
Vernon on Phoebe-- there is nothing. I was hoping there might be something at
Poseyville in a local newspaper that might have gone back that far. I was wondering if
anyone could do a lookup at Poseyville or tell me whom to call at the library there for a
lookup.
I think Phoebe belongs to John H. Crabtree and Elizabeth Gale Bevins (2ond wife).
I am from John H.'s brother William and his first wife (Sally Bennett)-- who is buried
at the Stewartsville Cem. I think John H. and family lived in the Stewartsville area.
Phoebe was married in Edwards CO., IL-- why there, I don't know. But she and
John Saulman lived near the families of John H. and Wm. Phoebe also had an invalid
daughter of John H. who lived with her (Phoebe)-- which is why I feel that Phoebe belongs
to John H. of IN, and not the John Crabtree who went to IL. Phoebe has been my
mystery gal for a long, long time. Of course, a death record may only list a John
Crabtree for a father and an unknown for mother. Seems the mom's are usually
unknown. Thanks so much.
