Hi, I am hoping that someone on the list can help me out. I am working
on my Crabtree line that came from the Carolinas, to Christian Co., KY, then
into Posey/Gibson Counties-- the Stewartsville/Saulman Cem area. Two
brothers (John H. and William) came into the area about 1816 and are the
only two Crabtrees listed for Posey/Gibson Counties in 1820 and 1830. John
md Rebecca Calvin and Elizabeth Bevins. Wm (my line) married Sarah
Bennet and Elizabeth Hurt/Hunt Brown. There was also a John Crabtree in
Edwards County in 1830. I have a Phoebe Crabtree who married John
Saulman in Edwards Co., IL, in 1842 and is on the 1850-1880 census of
Posey/Gibson County, IN. Several other Crabtree researchers and myself
are trying to find where this Phoebe fits-- we are almost certain her father
is John. One researcher of Phoebe's line remembers listing to her
grandmother and great aunts talk of the Crabtree/Bevins kin. Another
sourse has cited the Edwards Co., IL, John as the father of Phoebe.
Phoebe died in 1894 in Indiana (we think) and is buried in the Saulman
Cemetery. Death records in IN were kept at the court house from 1880 on.
There is no record on Phoebe that might list her parents in Gibson County,
and none in Posey that we can find. Can anyone help with this puzzle?
Thanks so much.
