Okay --
The WWI Registrations show this and you can see the father of George E. is James Smith
while the registration for James shows his father as Charles:
WWI Draft Registration:
Name: George Emil Smith
City: Not Stated
County: Gibson
State: Indiana
Birth Date: 12 Jan 1900
Race: White
Roll: 1503893
DraftBoard: 0
b Jan 12, 1900
living Patoka, Gibson Co, IN
Father shown as James Smith of #1 Patoka, Gibson Co, IN
next of Kin shown as James Smith (Father) too
single
---
WWI Draft Registration - this is NOT same James Smith as father
of George Smith, who was born Jan 1900:
WWI Draft Registration:
Name: James Lewis Smith
County: Gibson State: Indiana
Birth Date: 29 Nov 1874
Race: White Roll: 1503893 DraftBoard: 0
"Obviously Physically Disqualified"
of RFD 2 Princeton, Gibson Co, IN, age 43
father is Charles Smith of RFD A, Princeton, IN
single
---
Looking at many of the census' of this time shows that James L. is not the father of
George and I can't find anywhere where James L. ever married at all - single 1900,
1910, 1920 and when applied for WWI Registration - so he can't be George's
father:
1920 census
James 43 single is living at 1001 Maple Ave, Patoka Tp, Gibson
Co, IN with his brother Harry/Henry 27
while 1920 census shows
George Smith is living in White River Tp, Gibson Co, IN
with his father James & Lizzie
---
1910 census
living on Francisco Rd, Patoka Tp, Gibson Co, IN:
153-153
Charles S. Smith 67 widow IN KY KY
James L. son 34 single IN IN KY
Levi A. son 30 marr1 4yrs IN IN KY
Oscar M. son 24 single IN IN KY
Harry R. son 10 single IN IN KY
---
1900 census
Patoka Tp, Gibson Co, IN
45-49
Charles Smith b Mar 1845 55 marr 34 yrs IN TN TN
Mary E. b Feb 1850 50 marr 34 yrs 8ch 7 alive IN KY IN
James S. son b Nov 1875 24 single IN IN IN
Harry R. son b Jul 1892 7 single IN IN IN
+5 other children
----
1900 census:
299-319 White River Tp, Gibson Co, IN:
James S. Smith 39 b Feb 1861 IN IN IN shows married 9 years
Sarah E. 35 b Feb 1865, marr 9 yrs 7 ch 4 alive IN England IN,
children showing are:
Allie M., dau, 12 b June 1887 IN
Arvil M., son, 9 b Jul 1890 IN
Charles E, son, 8 b Mar 1892 IN
Roy C, son, 1 b Sep 1898 IN
George E., son, 4mo b Jan 1900 IN
---
So you can see that the George who was on WWI Registration is here above in 1900 with his
parents James & Sarah (NOT the James L. from that WWI Registration).
So the marriage (both regular marriage and the two supplemental ones) for your James,
father of George, would be:
James Smith Sarah E Claymeier marr 1 Feb 1891 Gibson Co, IN
WPA Book 8 Pg 37
marriage supplement shows:
James Smith marr Feb 1, 1891 Gibson Co, IN, age 29
Father: James, Mother: Sarah Jones
Gender: Male
WPA Supplemental Marriage Transcript Book H-1, Page 2
marriage supplement shows for Sarah:
WPA Supplemental, Book H-1, Page 2:
Sarah E Claymire marr 1 Feb 1891 Gibson Co, IN, age 26
Estimated Birth Year: 1865
Gender: Female Father: Charles, Mother: Mary Ann Rainey
---
Hopefully the above shows that the marriage you are looking for would be for James S ---
just not for James L since it appears he may never have married and definitely wasn't
married in 1900.
Hope this helps,
Judy M.
Judy, the son was George Emil Smith, born January 12, 1900. And I
have
copies of both their registration cards for service 1918, and the father
signed his jams Lewis Smith, and they were from Patoka,In.
Thanks
