Hi,
I remember going out to Boehne (pronounced BAY-nee) as a girl because my
one uncle was a TB patient there. Uncle Bert would sit at the window of
his room and my sister and I (and mom and dad) would stand below outside and
talk to him. He died about 1952 or so. So Boenhe camp was in operation
the very early 50's. I don't know much about the history of it, but I
think the building(s) were used for other things after it was closed as a TB
sanitorium. The camp was located on the west side of Evansville--between
Evansville and Mt. Vernon and (I think) somewhere on upper Mt. Vernon road.
But I was about 10 when my uncle was confined, so these are vague, vague
memories. Good luck. Helen Zuber Keusch

Would be interested to know if any of you ever came across a history of
Camp
Boehne that was located near Evansville in the late 30's.
I have a picture of my Aunt showing her in some type of uniform and the
name
of Camp Boehne on it and in an obituary for one of her siblings, it
mentions
she is from Camp Boehne.
Feel free to post this on the Gibson list if you want.
