Thanks for the suggestion. Perhaps the only way to follow this family is thru the
military.
I haven't had any luck since there seem to be so many John Hawkins and don't know
what Mary's maiden name was either.
John was 35 in the 1850 census, so perhaps he didn't go to fight. He would have been
in his late 40's or so. There is a John J Hawkins who was in the 134 Infantry (100
days) in Co F. Armstrong's brother, John, was two years younger that he, making John
about 20. Perhaps they went together. I found a film number for them, maybe that will
help?
Daniel was two years older than Armstrong. But there are at least six in the Indiana
units. I just need to know more about this family early on in order to figure them out.
