I don't know about actual birth certificates, but births has to be registered in
Indiana in 1882. The health department has those records.

You might have a problem finding that birth certificate. I believe in
Indiana, they did not have to be filed until after 1910. My grandmother was
born in Indiana in 1901 and there is no birth certificate on file for her.
The same with two of her siblings. That is for Madison County-I was told
that it was up to the doctor to file it, if they wanted to. Luckily, they
were Catholic and I got the info through the local parish records.
