Trying to track these two gg-grandparents down some. From various census returns and from
her grave stone and her obituary we 'know' that Catherine was born in Pennsylvania
March 24, 1845. Her obit states that she was born in Snyder County, it did not exist at
the time. Snmyder County was drawn from Union County though. Her obit further states she
moved from Pa to Franklin County Indiana when she was 16/17 (1860 - 65) with her
'Step-parents'. She met and married Jacob Flury and lived in Franklin County until
after their first child was born (Henry in 1865). Then they moved to Cass County Michigan.
There are a few things that makes this 'story' a little bit unbeleivable; 1) No
record of Cather Reese has ever been found in either Union or Snyder Counties. A Catherine
Reese was in Adams County Pa at the right time and she appears to have an older brother
named Jonathon.
On the federal 1870 and 1880 census returns from Michigan we see that Catherine
apparently had an older brother named Jonathon. This seems to match.
There was a reference to the females in the Reese family in Hamiltonban Township, Adams
Couty, Pennsylvania attending a Lutheren Church in the area. She married Jacob Flury, who
had been born Jakob Mathiasd Fluri, in Switzerland. The Luthern Church ties in with
Germanic Swis.
There are indications that when Jacob immigrated (1850-55) he came to the Pa area to be
close to family that had already located there. It is poosible that he migrated to Indiana
from Pa bedause of the fighting in the area.
I have documented Jacob's life before immigration but between his immigration and the
1870 census it is really bare. I think I have found some Civil War documents but have not
proven them yet.
Catherine before the 1870 census is all shadow. There is nothing of any proof yet.
I am trying Franklin County as her obit said sghe lived here for several years and her
first born ,Henry Phillip, always listed Indiana as his birthplace on the census forms.
Any ionfo or help that might be provided would br very gratefully accepted. I have been
trying to find info on Catherine for over 10 years.
Thanks
Bob
