Hi to all who responded
First I called the Bookmark this morning to find they are out of stock
on the Franklin Co. Atlas. They are working on an 1863 Wall map into a
Township book, from the landowners, and if Mick Wiltz who is the
President of the Franklin Co. Historical Society 1-765-647-6457 gets
enough interest in redoing the 1882 they may reprint 500 of the 1882
Franklin Co. atlas's. So give Mick a call and see how he might be
planning this.
The Bookmark is a publisher of Atlas's and other County Histories,
Cemetery Records and many other Genealogy books. This is part of the
publishing that is owned by Mr Tom Mayhill, they publish a number of
weekly trade papers so if you call 1-800-876-5133, ext 170 and ask for
Bonnie in the daytime. This number is for the Antique Trader which also
lists many many used books for sale that Antique dealers run across in
Estate Sales, and I've found "many" genealogy books this way too. The
store is one block north of the National road, on Washington St. it's
about 200 ft wide, with parking down the center in Knightstown, IN, they
are on the SW corner of that street. If your in the area it is well
worth stopping in to see all they have. They also have some used
genealogy books that may not be listed. They have Atlas's for many Ind.
Counties, and Ohio, counties, plus OH, state atlas for the 1800's
I live in So. Calif but have subscribed to the Antique Trader for years
for only the genealogy sources information. Tho the genealogy stuff is
only 3 or 4 pages, it has been well worth it. At the time I got my
Franklin Co. Atlas it was $13.50 and sponsored by the Laurel Kiwanis
Club in Laurel, IN. That was in 1976, but The Bookmark has so many
different Atlas's that I imagine they still would have copies. They were
the publisher of the Indiana Atlas that is still sold by the Indiana
Historical Society in Indianapolis for $15.00 ($10 for members) of which
I just purchased another one last Oct 98. I was in the Bookmark myself
in November 98. The Franklin Co. Atlas is called the "1882 Landowners
Atlas of Franklin Co,In by J. H. Beers & Co.". So since this Atlas is
currently unavailable if your interested in any particular section, or
biography I can copy these for you for just the cost of postage for a
few pages.
Since it's 133 pages I can't do the whole thing very well. I can do 11 X
17 so that covers each twp in two pages.
