Dear Folks,
Recently I have been doing an intensive review of Franklin County census
films 1850 - 1910. I am amazed at how much information can be gathered from
records I looked at before, but missed. For those of you who are into
esoteric but interesting research, I rediscovered that the 1900 census
sometimes gathered the year of immigration to the US. I am researching the
Hannebaum family. They came to the US from Bremen to Baltimore on the ship
Marianne, arriving on September 25, 1843. They moved quickly to Cincinnati,
and from there to Salt Creek, Peppertown, Franklin County, Indiana. I have
posted a complete passenger list of the Marianne on a website [
http://members.aol.com/lhchristen/marianne.htm ], and now I am trying to
discover who else from that voyage might have found their way to Franklin
County, Indiana. For your information and/or entertainment, the following is
a rough list of my 1843 candidates:
1843 Immigrants to Franklin County, Indiana
Gathered from 1900 Census Records
A few entries for nearby years are given to allow for failing memories. This
search hopes to find other passengers from the Marianne, and also hopes to
locate Elizabeth Hannebaum, b. February 17, 1824, Wetter (Melle),
Niedersachsen, Prussia. She may have married shortly after arrival in the US,
and I haven't found her married name (or her death date).

Three Hannebaum families appear on the 1900 Census of Franklin County,
Indiana. They are headed by Indiana-born Fred Hannebaum, son of Henry [Henry,
his parents and siblings all immigrated to the US in 1843]; Indiana-born John
Hannebaum, also a son of Henry; and Indiana-born Kate [Wulber] Hannebaum,
widow of Henry who was herself born in Highland Township. Living at home with
Kate Hannebaum is her son, Indiana-born Charles Hannebaum. Therefore none of
the 1843 Hannebaum immigrating family appear to be living in Franklin County
at this time. The two sisters, Elizabeth and Catherine Hannebaum, may appear
on this Census, but perhaps under a married name, which we do not yet know.
Happy Hunting!
