Randy Klemme and all
My wife and I will be visiting Oldenburg after 16 Aug. We will wander around
town and go to the cemetery. I am hoping to go to the court house as well.
I have found many of my Waechter family and have the passenger list of the
Barque Pennsylvania that brought them to Baltimore in Sept 1838 from Bremen,
Hitzkaufen, Germany. I don't find Hitzkaufen on a map of Germany. The
Waecthers are still in the area and have a family reunion every two years or
so.
I will be searching for the Sellmeyer and Dahmus families. Sellmeyers first
arrived in Oldenburg abt 1842. They owned the tannery and St Joseph Wool
Factory in Oldenburg. In time they moved to Indianapolis and to Arkansas.
We know little about the Dahmus family other than it was large.
The Dahmuses made wooden shoes at first. All three families supported the
Catholic church with nuns and priests.
I would like to find any records of their citizenship or declaration. Any
leads that will tell us where they came from.
John Henry Sellmeyer Jr. m. Maria Enneking Nov 1866
Mary Catherine Sellmeyer m. John Ortman Apr 1870
Henry Christopher Sellmeyer m. Mary A. Studer Nov 1870
Theresa Sellmeyer m. Bernard Hooverkamp May 1891
Joseph Sellmeyer m. Bernadina Damhus Sep 1888
Fredrick Sellmeyer m. Caroline Cranzlor Oct 1884.
There are three other children that we don't have marriage records for.
I will appreciate any and all help in making my time more productive and less
time lost searching for places.
