Hi,
I am hunting my ggggrandparents, Jacob Spear b abt 1800 m Nancy Hobbs b abt
1798. They were married April 4, 1819 in Franklin Co.
One child, Margaret Speer m John Holland and another child my gggrandfather,
David Speer m Tennessee Brown. David Speer was killed in the Civil War in
1863 and his wife, Tennessee subsequently committed suicide that same year.
According to census records, other children of Jacob Spear m Nancy Hobbs
include Robert, Solomon and Arena and possibly more.
In a desperate attempt to find more info on Jacob Spear, I and two other
researchers (actually, I am the novice - they are the researchers) began
searching Franklin Co, Indiana records and found many Spear/Speer families,
none of which we have succeeded in sorting out! Is anyone out there related
to any of these Spears, or even better yet, my Jacob Spear? Also, one of my
research friends is my wannabe cousin who is searching for Robert Spear m
Lydia Mulkins June 15, 1814, also in Franklin Co. Again, we do not know any
of the relationships with the various Spears. the 1820 census of Franklin
Co lists Joseph Speer, Jacob Speers and John Spear. The 1830 census lists
Robert Spears, Elizabeth Spears & Jacob Spears and then you get into the
land deeds and marriage records and find a variety of Andrew Spear listings.
Jacob Spear appears to have been in Franklin Co or nearby (think at one
point, he turned up in Livingston Co.) until the 1850 Harrison Co., Missouri
Census. As we track him, he seems to always be near the Hobbs or Hollands
in Indiana and then in Missouri, we find him near the Browns, Hobbs &
Hollands. They may have all moved together - possibly with the Brown
wagontrain. The 1850 census lists his birthplace as NC, but just to make
things a little more challenging, there is another Jacob Spear b abt 1800 NC
m Nancy? who is wandering around Gibson Co. at this time also. He however,
was a Baptist Preacher and has different children .
I am so confused with all of these Spears, that I don't even know who I am!
Can anyone assist? I think my attempts have only "muddied the waters"
Thanking you in advance
Teri
