Amy,
I think most of us have some ancestors who would fit your
description of yours! Do you know where this family attended church?
Some churches had records that could help, but others don't. You don't
find much on Baptist records, but if you luck out and find a
Presbyterian, a Catholic or a Lutheran you can learn a lot! Just this
summer a lady on the Internet answered my query on my Havice family
(scribble that name and see how many ways people can misspell it--I
found it four different ways in Decatur Co IN!). Turned out the lady
was researching the Moon family--she had found where her Mariah Moon had
married a William Havice. She also had found some German Lutheran
confirmation records in Butler Co PA which included that William and his
younger brothers and sisters. The great thing was the church had used
the original surname and showed their father was Abraham Hebeisen! And
their mother was Margaretta Esther Mueller! How was that for luck for
the untraceable people? There are no Havices in immigration records but
there were three Hebeisens back in the right time period. Have you
tried thinking if there could have been a name change? I have been told
that often when a family moved to a new location if the clerk in the
Court House spelled their name differently when they bought their land
they continued to use that name from then on!
Good luck.
Marian
I'm so stuck! Please HELP!
I have a g-grandfather, his 2 sisters and 1 brother who were born in Franklin
Cty, IN - - but I can't find anything on them!
My grandfather's name was James Francis OGLESBY, b. 2/20/1887; his sister
Sarah L. OGLESBY, born 3/5/1885; his sister Fannie J. OGLESBY, b. 3/17/1890;
and his brother, Earl Roger OGLESBY, b. 3/19/1893.
Their parents were James F. OGLESBY and Sarah L. ALFORD (Sarah was James' 2nd
wife). I have a copy of their marriage certificate from Franklin Cty, IN,
and I have actual copies of pages from the OGLESBY Family Bible where these
births were recorded as being in Franklin Cty, (Laurel), IN. The courthouse
has no record of their births.
I have some information on my g-grandfather, but nothing on his siblings or
parents.
Does anyone have any ideas where I can go to find information about these
people -- or their parents? I'm about to hang up my geneology shoes after
nearly 20 years of hitting a brick wall.
These people existed - - why can't I find them??? I have searched every
internet site imaginable. I have called every living Oglesby in the state of
Indiana and surrounding areas, and other locales across the country. I have
traced hundreds of Oglesby lines (literally - - hundreds), but they never
hook up to mine. These people have no birth records. They have no SS#s.
They have no obituaries. They have no marriage records. They have no
military records. They can't be found in any business directory. No census
records. No cemetery records. No nothing.
My husband is lonely. My children are hungry. I need professional help.
Please advise.
Amy Tillman (Oglesby)
