This is a sample of copies of Consents and Affidavits for marriage records,
Franklin Co., IN, that I have. Few years ago when researching in Franklin Co.,
I asked if they had any "loose papers" not filed. We were allowed to look in
two rooms in the attic that had lots and lots of loose papers - some in
bundles, some slightly water-soaked, all in disarray. We found a bundle of the
consents and affidavits and copied. I am in the process of preparing a copy of each
to give to the DAR Library in Wash., DC. I did get a copy to the Franklin Co.
Court House for their use. I have not been back so do not know what they did
with them. I would like to hear from anyone in Franklin Co. who might know if
anything was ever done with the papers in the attic. There was a gold mine
there.
I hope to eventually get more of these on line. They are so very valuable
when relationship is given of the bride and groom.
In Rush or Decatur Co. (I'm not sure just which one) has these old consents
and afidavits filed in regular boxes. Very few court houses have kept these
papers.
