Marilyn, try to get a copy of the 1882 Atlas of Franklin Co. I only saw it once when I
was in Franklin Co. library, but I remember it said quite a bit about the land, the
Indians etc. A few years ago someone on this list was selling them again. I couldn't
afford it, but see if someone has a copy.

Thanks Norma,
I did check there. It pretty much just gives date of the county's birth and
a small amount of history of how it became a county. I want to know what the
area was like in 1809 thru 1830 when my grandfather's Jabez Winship and
James Ross, were living there. Was there epidemics, floods, other natural
disasters? What were the lives of these pioneers like? Were there an
abundant supply of fresh game, wild fruits and etc.? Was the land they
wanted to cultivate for their crops covered with trees, rocks, etc.?
As Lovina Winship, Jabez's daughter, married John Conner I was able to find
some things but the book on him and his brother, William, mainly tell about
them.
Thanks for taking the time to send the link. I really appreciate it.
