Sheri,
Have you checked for a probate record for your ancestor? My Philip
Lawrence, Jr. died in Franklin Co IN--he was listed in the 1850 census but
in 1860 his wife was living with a married daughter. Another 3rd great
grandfather, John HAVICE also was in the 1850 census in Franklin Co. He
died in 1853 and his probate did give a date of death, but of course I have
no idea what cemetery he was buried in, and if ever there was a tombstone it
is long gone. I have looked at some cemetery records online in Franklin Co
and I find nothing there. A man who was working on an advanced degree used
probate records in Franklin Co for his source and then put some of them on
the internet. I was fortunate that he put the inventory of that Havice
estate on his list. Havice is a hard name for people to figure out with
some of the old writing, so he had it as Harvice--I wrote him and he has the
correct name in parenthesis now, so someone else may eventually find it.
John Havice's widow was daughter of that Philip Lawrence, Jr. and she took
her family over to Decatur Co IN where she bought a few acres from her
brother. Then when the Havice estate was completed they had the money to
buy the rest of the farm from her brother Daniel Philip Lawrence. The
children were grown and married by the time they sold it in 1869 ready to
move on to Champaign Co IL, so the deed was signed by each child and spouse
as well as Mother! Really good proof!
Marian

Subject: [INFRANKLI-L] to list -- Wayne County History
Thought I would share this with you ;
Nancy really got lucky here with her LEVI COFFIN .
There are 24 pages of stories on LEVI with a picture of his house .
Stories
of negros he helped in the underground railroad , much personal info
on
him .
Much info about the Friends meetings . I would be thrilled to get
this
on
an ancestor !
This is why it is nice to share with the list if someone is lucky enough
to
get their hands on an old book . One lady on Iowa list spent many
hours
typing stories from her book to e-mail for the list - I think it was Cass
county
,
Iowa . A few people will do things like this when they have time .
Old
books can be so expensive as is buying cemetery books from Gene Society's
. I
have been looking for a complete list cemetery books for Franklin
County ,
Indiana .
I have a long way to go in reading so will see what turns up . :)
BTW - if anyone has cemetery books for Franklin county would you please
do
a look for DAVID MARMON - MOORMAN
died 8-11-1840
I personally think he died in Franklin County but he could be in any of
these
Counties . I have checked ' on line ' to see if there is an
old
newspaper
available for that year & month for Franklin County , Indiana --
but
havent
found one yet . I know where his wife -- ELIZABETH is buried but not
DAVID .
I checked the American Quaker Records on CD but that was for N.
Carolina
.
If anyone has the QUAKER records for Indiana at home would you mind
checking
for DAVID MOORMAN { father was BENJAMIN }
thanks much
sheri
