Franklin Co, Indiana records show that a Sarah Jolliffe married Philip Cupp
18 Dec 1850.
In the 1860 Salt Creek twp, Franklin co, Ind. census is found the family of
a Philip and Sarah Cupp. He was born about 1823 in Kentucky, and Sarah was
born about 1824 in Ohio. This would seem to match the Sarah Jolliffe I am
seeking. Am looking for further information on the Sarah Jolliffe b. about
1823 in Ohio, the daughter of Enoch Jolliffe and Catherine Bowler. Would like
her complete dates and locations. >>
Kathleen,
I copied a portion of an indenture from Franklin Co IN because I thought the
Thomas KENNEDAY (Kennedy?) who was mentioned might be my gg-grandfather. I
have since learned that he is not as this Thomas KENNEDAY died abt 1855 and
my ancestor died in Hancock Co IN, 12 or 19 Dec 1876. However, it is likely
this same Thomas KENNEDAY (sic) mentioned in the indenture is related to me,
in some way, as he also purchased land in Hancock Co IN, in the same section
in which my gg-grandfather lived toward the end of his life. I am sending
this to you as the JOLLIFF name is mentioned and it may provide some sort of
clue.
This portion I copied was written sideways in the margin of the indenture and
reads as follows:
I, Jane JOLLIFF formerly Jane JENNINGS do hereby acknowledge full and
complete satisfaction of this mortgage I having received of Thomas KENNEDY
the amount of the same in full on day ? September 1853. Witness my hand and
seal this 13th day of December AD 1854 Signed Jane JOLLIFF.
*Originally* the indenture was made the 28th day of Nov 1842 between Thomas
KINEDAY (sic) of the county of Franklin and Jane JENNINGS of the county of
Franklin. I *think* Thomas was selling some land to Jane JENNINGS as Thomas
and Mary Ann KENNEDAY (sic) signed the indenture.
Would you happen to have a Thomas KENNEDY anywhere in your files?
