Hello!
The Whitewater Valley Genealogical Association has been fortunate to be
able
to schedule some really interesting programs for the next couple of
months,
and we hope you can join us for one or both.
On Tuesday, April 17th we will have as our speaker Julie Schlesselman,
Head
of Local History and Genealogy at the Brookville Library. Her topic will
be "Fairfield: History Lost to Progress" and will include a video and
some
show-and-tell items about the town. Bring your Fairfield photos and
memorabilia to share during the discussion! The meeting will be held at
7:00 pm at the Parish House of Trinity Episcopal Church, 211 E. 6th
Street,
Connersville.
The May meeting is on May 15th and will be held at First United Methodist
Church, 729 Central Avenue. The program will feature an online
demonstration by Shirley Fields, Volunteer Coordinator for the Indiana
Marriage Records Project. This project is being undertaken by the Indiana
Genealogical Society as a part of the LDS's massive "Family Search
Indexing"
effort to make many more genealogical records available online.
Participation is completely on a volunteer basis. Anyone with a computer
that meets minimum requirements can become an indexer, and Shirley will be
demonstrating the process and giving us an update on the project's status.
(I personally have indexed about 500 names so far, and it's both easy and
fun.)
Both of these programs should be interesting and informative, and there
will
be time for you to ask questions and share your experiences with the
group.
We look forward to seeing you!
Karen Creamer, President
Whitewater Valley Genealogical Assn.
