Ken,
The USGS site, when I searched for Rochester, brought up Cedar Grove. This
is a small town in SE Franklin on the Whitewater river. Metamora is more NW
but still on the Whitewater.
My guess is that Rochester was changed to Cedar Grove at some point in time.

Nel,
That was quick! Your reply to my query was time stamped 15 minutes after
my question. I checked the Cedar Grove web site and the name was changed from
Rochester to Cedar Grove in 1907. I think you have hit the nail on the
head! Thanks BUNCHES!
Benjamin Doty and family do not appear on the 1840 census anywhere. I have
them in 1800, 1810, 1820 and 1830. The Charles W. Doty I mentioned was born
in 1840 plus or minus and in 1850 is living in Metamora with his mother and
siblings. No Benjamin!
This may be a clue as to where he disappeared.
Thanks again
Ken Pohl
