Are Hiram & Perlexna Songer buried in Fountain County?
1850 Census, Van Buren Twp, Fountain Co.
Hiram Songer, 30, b. Ten
Perlexna Songer, 32, b. Ohio
Mary J, 10
Hester A, 7
Viana, 5
George W, 4
Sarah E, 2
Francis M, 8/12
All children except the last were born in Illinois.
1856 - Mary Jane m. Samuel B. Eveans in Vermilion Co, IL. Adam Songer (Hiram's
brother?) signed that Perlexna had given consent.
1858 - Hester Ann m. Peter Covolt in Vermilion Co, IL. Adam Songer signed that Hester was
at least eighteen.
Does this mean that Hiram died before 1856?
My husband's great-grandmother was Vianna Songer. Her last name was Wood when she
married his great-grandfather, Benjamin Greider, in 1870. There is a Fountain Co marriage
record between Lavina Songer and Josiah Wood. Josiah died in the Civil War in 1863, after
enlisting in 1862 in Livingston Co Illinois, where his family lived. 1870 census in Cass
Co IN shows Vianna and her son John living with Josiah's parents.
We hope to prove the marriage and son's birth from pension records, since we
haven't found a marriage record with the right name and haven't found a birth
record for John.
Any help will be appreciated.
