May I suggest volunteers and a "clean up project". Maybe Historical and
Genealogical Societies, and relatives..even if they are generations away.
Some are still very interested.
This was the case with a destroyed cemetery in DeKalb Co, IL. It is located
in the "middle" of a field. When the land was purchased by a farmer, it was
in the contract that he keep the cemetery fenced in and mowed. Of course,
he did not. And his pigs got in there and did terrible damage, plus the
years of negelect. People, those interested, related, etc. set times and
everyone showed up with clean up tools and got to work. Of course, all
could not be repaired, but as much was done as possible. They had a
wonderful turnout.

Some food for thought when discussing the upkeep of the cemeteries. Your
feed back would also be appreciated. Yes, MOST, BUT NOT ALL. Only the
abandoned cemeteries are the responsibility of the trustee, BUT how are
the
trustees to repair the tombstones or have someone repair them when we
can
find no one qualified to do the task correctly. I feel, when it comes to
repairing the tombstones, most people don't know the difference between a
marker and a 2 x 4. I really do sympathies with the need to have these
cemeteries repaired but the cost is another thing to keep in mind. If the
trustee takes care of the problem then the taxpayers (you and me) have to
pay for the job to be done and in most cases the taxes would have to be
increased.
Let me know your thoughts, your solution to the problem, just keep in mind
it is not always the trustee that is at fault, sometimes we are just
fighting the system.
