In a similar research situation in another state, I approached the State
Health Dept with the question regarding epidemics in that state and they
were very very helpful in both information as well as directing me to
other sources. You might want to try the Indiana State Health Dept.

Does anyone know of any health epidemic that might have occurred in
the early
1840's in the area of Fountain/Vermillion Counties, IN? Or maybe a
very
harsh winter?
I think it's more coincidental that 2 of my GGG Grandfather's,
William
Carroll in his early 20's and John Williams in his early 30's, died
around
the same time in the same area. William was in the Attica area of
Fountain
Co. and John was in the Newport area of Vermillion Co. when they
would have
died. (John might also have had a son die too.)
Any help is very greatly appreciated. Mary
