rich.....i just came from the cemetery to put artificial flowers on graves. the community
donated lots and lots of flowers last year by putting them in a box that i put at the
grocery store. we took them off last fall, cleaned them, and then stored them. this was
the first time that flowers have ever been in this cemetery.
phil berge (70+ years old) has the remaining stones in his garage. he took these home to
clean during the winter months last year. we'll be bringing them back to the cemetery
in the next week or so. we both are getting caught up on other stuff so we can then donate
our time back to our project.
also.....sad, but there are many many stones that have been completely destroyed over the
years. so there are some pioneers buried in this cemetery that we will never know about.
the fountain county genealogy center, which is located in veedersburg, has been getting
old funeral home records from many of the surrounding areas. one funeral home had records
of burials in oak grove that there are no stones for. if you come back to visit the area,
stop at the center. obits, funeral records, books, discs, and all kinds of research
material. and the people who work there are absolutely great in helping. they have a toll
free number..877-760-6058. email address.....focogensoc(a)netscape.net usually if you
mention the last name of a family, they recognize it. of course, the crane-crain name was
well known. there were so many of them!!!
