Message Board Post:
I am posting this to discussion lists for Montgomery County, Indiana, Fountain County,
Indiana, and Yankton County, South Dakota. I apologize for the cross posting, but believe
it to be appropriate in this case.
Another researcher recently contacted me asking me whether a George W. English listed at
http://worldconnect.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=GET&db=rmhunziker...
was married to Druzilla HALL in 28 Feb 1877 in Montgomery County, Indiana. That
researcher has the same George W. English as married to Eva BROWN on 17 Oct 1906 in
Montgomery County. This seems logical in that both marriages occurred in Montgomery
County.
The above Rootsweb database has George W. English also married to a Laura Service. I
maintain the Rootsweb database, but many others have contributed to it over the years.
The George W. English listed at the Rootsweb site is the son of Myzeal English and Malinda
Arnold. He is listed in the Hendricks County, Indiana 1880 census as living with his
parents. He could have married Druzilla Hall and then Druzilla died or they divorced.
However, this merited further review. Also this causes me to question whether I have
incorrectly tied this George English to the one who married Eva Brown. I am posting this
in case any one has further information regarding the family to which Drusilla J.
Hall's husband belongs and the family to which Eva Brown's husband belongs. Below
is some additional information that I have uncovered and which may be of use.
A "Drusilla J Hall" married a "George English" on 28 Feb 1877 in
Montgomery County, per Marriage License Book 8, Page 533.
Page 37 of the 1860 census for Troy Township, Fountain County, Indiana (Series M653, Reel
258, 27 Jun 1860,
http://www.rootsweb.com/~cenfiles/in/fountain/1860/1pg0035.txt) lists
the following in the family of Thomas Hall:
Thomas 43 M Farmer Ohio
Nancy A. 42 F Ohio
Mary E. 20 F School Teacher Ind
John K. 18 M Farm Laborer Ind
Druzilla 16 F Ind
Elenor 14 F Ind
Sarah A 7 F Ind
Laura 5 F Ind
This Druzilla Hall could be the same person as the Montgomery County bride of George
English. A review of
www.FamilySearch.org, suggests that the mother of Druzilla is Nancy
Ann Swearingen.
(Marsha's Warrick Web,
http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~warrickcounty/1860owen.htm, lists a Druzilla Hall
for Warrick County, Indiana: 248-251; Hall Druzilla; 10 F IN; OW. An "Edna Drusilla
Hall" was married on 08 Oct 1904 in Warrick County, Indiana per the WPA Index to
Supplemental Records, Book H-27, Page 26. Father: Joseph B; Mother: Annie Phelps. I
presume that the Warrick County Drusilla(s) is (are) different from the
Fountain/Montgomery County Drusilla.)
A "Drusilla Jane Hall" and a "George Washington English" gave birth to
Clarence Benjamin English in Yankton County, South Dakota on July 15, 1882. The 1880
Federal Census Index lists a George W. English in Yankton County in township 93&94
range 55&56.
Page 4B of the 1930 census for Civil Bend, Union County, South Dakota (Roll: T626_2232)
lists a George W English, age 68 born in Ohio boarding in the Ballinger household. His
father was born in NJ. His mother was born in PA. This suggests this George English was
born around 1862. He was probably too young in 1877 to have married. Of course, the age
could be inaccurate.
