Last of the DeHaven Brothers Expires

Arthur C. DeHaven, the last survivor of the famous and long-lived DeHaven
brothers, died on Friday morning, October 30, 1932 (note discrepancy), at the
home of his son, Dr. Samuel DeHaven, in Gary, at the age of 96 years.
He lived in Covington for many years, where he was engaged with one of
his brothers in the blacksmith and wagon making business. He was a member of
one of Troy Township's old families, born on a farm east of Covington, August
15, 1846, a son of Jacob and Susan Osborn-DeHaven, one of 13 children.
He was married Nov. 17, 1874 to Elizabeth Jane Simpson who died in 1918.
Surviving are three sons, Samuel F. of Gary, Elver of San Francisco, Calif.,
and George of Louise, Texas, and a daughter, Mrs. Grace Boggs, of Houston,
Texas. Five daughters, Nora, Gena, Mabel, Helen, and Ruth preceded him in death.
Ten grandchildren also survive.
Three of his brothers reached the age of 90 years before their passing
and one brother, Abner, died a few years ago here in his 98th year. He was
active in Democratic politics in Fountain county and served as Marshall in
Covington for many years. During the latter years of his life he lived with his
children.
The funeral service was held at the Crumley Chapel on Sunday afternoon,
conducted by the Rev. George Beatty, of the Methodist church and interment was
made in Prescott Cemetery.
