Hello,
I live in Dubois CO (southern IN) and the records librarian at
our court house (Jasper) archive room forwarded me an email from a person in
the Netherlands (Max). This person is caring for the grave site of a
Joseph P. Nelson, who is listed as MIA during WWII. His death is given as
Dec 4, 1944. Max would like to contact members of Joseph's family and in
doing research, Max got confused Jasper County with Jasper, IN. I have
been doing some research on Joseph-
1910-Jasper CO, Joseph (b. 1907) is with his parents-Joseph Nelson and Glen
L. (his mother), and Marie (5) and Leo (10/12). I cannot find the family
at all in the rest of the censuses.
1920-Joseph is with his likely grandparents and maybe an uncle (Earl-22).
The census is almost unreadable. The grandfather might be
Christopher/Frederick Nelson, b. Sweden, and wife Josephine. In Fountain
CO.
1930 and 1940, Joseph is single, working as a laborer on a fruit farm.
Enlistment record of 1942 of Joseph gives his county as Fountain, his
occupation was a laborer on a fruit farm. The service record on him
states his division, and that he went missing, and gives a death of Dec 4,
1944.
I would like to forward Max's email to a person who might know something of
this family. Can you help or direct me to someone who can help?
Thanks so much. Helen Zuber Keusch-Dubois CO., IN
