Debbie, I don't know your McElwee grandfather...however, I would NEVER get
hung up over difference in names. You need to keep an open mind about
spellings and about names. You are extremely lucky the names are that
close. Totally depends on time period, who is writing the info on censuses,
land titles, wills, any vital or church records. I would not even get to
hung up over dates...one may say b. 1863 and the next record may say 1864.
You sort of have to use the process of elimination. Isn't genealogy fun!

I am really confused. My aunt said that my gt gt grandfather's name was
Munson
Matthew McElwee. Everyone one here saids it is Matthew M. McElwee.
