I looked on the 1850 census and I see two Phillip Rowans living in Richland Township. One
is 80 and the other 11. They are living with Charlotta Rowan, Delia, Mary, Rachel, Andrew,
and Elizabeth. Looking in cemetery records I find....
Salem Cemetery
Mary Rowan died Aug.23, 1851 20y 11m 5d
Andrew Rowan died Feb.29, 1831 5y 2m 24d s/o Andrew and Charlotta
Andrew Rowan died Jan.12, 1841 40y 3m 8d
There was a Thomas Rowland who was a doctor living in Van Buren Township, I believe.
Andrew Round was one of the first settlers in Davis Township, which borders Richland
Township.
A Joshua Rowland died in 1841 with a William Moore as administrator to his estate. Samuel
Rowan died in 1831 with Peter Patterson as administrator.
Early marriage records show Jacob Rowan married Eliza Songer Feb. 17, 1843, Melissa Rowan
married Rolla Emmett Oct. 3, 1844, and Thomas Rowan married Malinda Walker Feb.27, 1845.
Also showing are Ezra's marriage, Thomas's, Cinthia Ann's, and Henry's.
In court records...
3:306 May term 1842-Hon. Joseph Coats, Partition. Mary Rowland, widow of Joshua Rowland
vs. Matthias H. Spinning. Filed 13 Jan. 1842 by Hannegan & Ward, attys., showing
Rowland owned land in 8-19-8, 7-19-8 conveyed by Archibald Johnson Sept. 10, 1837; that 13
Dec. 1839 the Sheriff of Fo. Co. said the tracts in accordance with a judgement to
Spinning. Joshua died 21 June 1841, & Spinning unjustly withheld her dower right. John
Ward, John Crain, & John Hamilton, Commissioners, assigned 12 acres in 7-19-8 to Mary
with the right to go to and from & use of the spring of water now used by
occupant's of the "mansion house".
I did not find a burial site for Ezra. As for the Dickinson-Dickerson families, if you
have some first names, I will check records for them.
And this is a freebie to you......
