Hi Clarence
That is correct. My JOHNSONS and CRAINS were in Iowa nearly 10 years
before Iowa became a state. I have several verifications of the date
including the following:
In fact they were also in PA before it became the United States and
they were in OH in around 1799-1801 before it became a state in 1803.
They were among a group of families, the JOHNSONS, CRAINS, MCCORDS,
RABBS and SAWYERS who all move westward spending time in each of the
locations mentioned as a group with many marriages between them along the way.
Are you tied to these families?

Hi Rich:
I happened to note that you had your people entering Iowa before Iowa
became a state. Iowa entered the Union on December 28, 1846. Prior to
that date it was the Iowa District of the Wisconsin Territory or was also
known as the Iowa Territory.
Hope that your JOHNSON research is going fine. Have a great week -
Best regards
