I am searching for any information on my Stevens family found on the 1850 census for
Richland Twp., Fountain County. Nathan Lester Stevens, born in Dec.1826 in Ohio--died in
1915 in Deer Creek, Carroll Co., IN. He married a Mary Alice Woods in 1850. She was the
daughter of Joe Woods and Sara Fisher. Nathan and Mary had Joseph M., 1851; Delphene,
1855; Frances J. 1859; twins Floyd and Lloyd, 1861; Cora, 1866; Lilly Ann, 1867.
I am working under the assumption that Nathan is related to other Stevens/Stephens living
in the same township and county in the 1850s/60s: William, David, Evan, Abednego, and
James. Nathan on a later census marked his father as being born in PA and his mother in
MD. We are also assuming that Nathan's mother was a Lester/Lister (from his middle)
who are also found in this county. Nathan may have had a brother Isaac/Isace, b. 1777, a
sister Mary b. 1784, and another Sarah, b. 1829 (yes, that is what the family data says).
We also have stories about this Stevens/Stephens family coming through the Cumberland Gap
and later moving into Page County, IA.
Any help will be much appreciated,
Melody Hull
