Thank you Sharon. Boy that didn't take you long. Those are John and Susan's
children that you listed with them. William and Esther (Hays) Liggett are the parents of
Susan. William died in Brown County, Ohio and Esther moved to Indiana with ten children
that were all born in Kentucky except for Susan, Rachel and George. Esther bought land in
Montgomery County and died in Fountain County, Indiana about 1853.
I know more about the Liggett's than my Smith's.............
Abner married Mahala Washburn in 1861 in Indiana and in 1894 he married Nancy Jane
Rutledge. My grandfather James Elmer Smith was born Illinois 1881, but always claimed
Nancy Jane Rutledge as his mother. Nancy Jane Rutledge always claimed all of Abner's
children as hers.
Mahala was 50 years of age when my grandfather was born, but Abner was suppose to be only
married twice. There is other children born before Abner and Nancy were married.
I will list those when I get them in front of me tomorrow.
Sharon, there I go again. Thanks for your help. Now I know where John and Susan went and
their children. Twins run in the Smith family. John and Susan had twins. My granddad who
always went by Elmer, not James had twin brothers. His son James Jr.'s son has twin
boys. Now I have to find how many kids Mahala had if any and John B. Smith's parents
names. Boy have you been a lot of help. Thanks again. I'm glad you have this hobby.
