I am very well acquainted with the Oak Grove Cemetery. About 3 years ago, a man and I
restored this cemetery. The man had taken several stones to his home, cleaned them, and
etched the information back into the stones. It wasn't until the stones were brought
back and the man was then etching into stones that were hard to read. This man....I give
him lots of credit for the work he did....was starting to etch in some info, then asked if
the number looked like a 3 or 8. I could not tell, but did tell him that no info should be
etched in, unless we definitely knew what was there before. Once it's put into stone,
it's etched in forever. When I reread the whole cemetery after the stones were set, I
compared the info with the previous records. I VERY strongly "suggested" that
anyone who was looking for information, to research further for dates especially. I did
probe for stones and found MANY buried. But, there were many stones that were broken and
laying against a fence and along!
trees. If the funeral home records and obit states that Hattie was buried in this
cemetery, she is buried there. Her stone may have been destroyed or no stone was ever put
up. To do a reading, we can just read the stones that are there.
