Covington Republican 4-11-1902 -- George BUTT one among the old citizens of
Covington died at his home in this city at 1:30 o'clock Saturday monring
aged 75 years 6 months 2 days after an illness of several months cancer of
the throat. Though many knew that Mr. Butt was fatally afflicted yet few
realized death was so near. While confined to his premises for some weeks he
was only confined to bed since Wednesday of last week. For more than a
week Mr. Butt had been able to take no nourishment of any kind and for many
weeks no solid food so that death resulted practically from starvation the
disease however being the primary cause. Funeral services conducted by the
Rev. JP Henson assisted by the Baptist Church choir were held from the
family residence on South Fifth street at 2:30 Sunday afternoon interment
being made on the family lot in the new part of Oak Grove cemetery. The
remains were followed to their last resting place by a large compnay of
relatives and friends. From abroad there were in attendance at the funeral
Jacob Lewis and family, George Lindermood and family and Mrs. MJ Points of
Attica, Mrs. Ollie Jones and Mrs. James Ireland of Champaign Ill David Nine
and sons, and Henry Butt and family of Veedersburg and Mrs. Flora Lucas of
Chicago all being immediate relatives of the family.. Goerge Butt was born
in Hamilton Ohio OCt 3, 1826 where was spent his childhood days. In 1849 at
the age of 23, he came west locating as a blacksmith in Covington. In 1851
he wa sunited in marriage to Miss Angeline E. Danforth who survives him.
From this union were born 5 children 4 still surviving, one dying in
infancy. They are Frank and Wrter of this city, Mrs. Ollie Jones of
Chamapaign Il and Mrs. Flora Lucas of Chicago, Ill. Of his own immediate
family 3 sisters, Mrs. Lucinda Hoover of Watseka, Ill, Mrs. Sarah Weir and
Mrs. Elizabeth Hoover of Ohio and two brothers Henry BUtt of Veedersburg
and Wm. of OHio still survivie. In 1851 Mr. Butt and family moved to
California wher he remained 3 years. Returning to this city he ever since
made it his home, being one of the city's best mechanics and businessmen
acquiring considerable property in his time. George Butt was a a good
citizen, a loving husband and father and a warm hearted and true firned and
leaves a host of friends who mourn his death.

TRINKLE 1836, son of FREDERICK TRINKLE and SALLY MARTIN. He was born 1815
in prob. Montgomery Co OH, and died 1883.

Iddings, 1881, p. 333 -- Samuel TRINKLE, farmer, Veedersburg, the son of
Fredric and Sally Martin Trinkle. The former was a native of VA born 1792.
He was reared to farming. In 1812 he married Sally Martin. They first moved
to Ohio where they remained till 1826, when they came to Fountain County,
locating 1/2 mile west of what is now Veedersburg. They raised a family of
11, six boys and five girls. Frederic Trinkle served int he war of 1812 for
a short time. The Trinkle family came orginally from Germany. Frederic and
wife were members of the Freewill Baptist Church. They both lived to the
good old age of 78. He was 4 years her senior. They were both esteemed
highly for their christian character and social and benevolent kindness to
all. Samuel Trinkle resides on a portion of the old homstead of his father.
He was born in Montgomery Co OH; emigrated to Fountain Co with his parents.
He was inured to all the hardships of pioneer life. His early education was
such as he could obtain int he pioneer schools. In 1836 he was married to
Elizabeth BUCK, of Ohio daughter of John and Susan Buck (note: in the 1983
History of Fountain County, Indiana p. 569 it says this is a mistake and her
name was Butt) both natives of VA, emigrating to Ohio in 1815 then to
Fountain Co in 1830. He has by this alliance 11 children: Margaret J.
Martin (deceased); Cyrena C; Frederic (deceased); John (deceased); Berilda;
Henry (deceased) Sarah (deceased); Elizabeth (deceased); Christopher and
Isaac J. Martin was a soldier in the 68th Ind Vols. He died in the service
at the end of 16 months. Samuel Trinkle and his wife are members of the
United Brethren Church. He has repeatedly been elected assessor of Van Buren
Twp for the past 29 years. In politics he is a republican. He has a farm
of 90 acres, in a good state of cultivation.

Covington Republican 4-4-1902 -- Word was received here Friday monring of
last week of the death of Harry W. JONES from injuries received in a runaway
on Wednesday before. He died Thursday morning at hte hospital in Champgian
Ill where Mr. and Mrs. Jones lived. He was a son in law of Mr. and Mrs.
George Butt of this city and formerly lived here and was well known. He was
thrown from a buggy in a runaway and his skull crushed. His death is a
great blow to the family and sad news to his many friends here.
