Isaac V. Davis, 88, vet. of the Civil War and resident of Wallace vicinity nearly all of
his life, d. at the St. Eliz. Hospital, Danville, Ill Wed night of last week at 10:45
o'clock following an illness of about 4 weeks. Mr. Davis underwent an operation for
the amputation of his right leg two weeks ago but failed to rally from the shock of the
operation. The dec. was b. near Salisbury, NC Aug 27, 1842 the s/o Vandiver and Mary
Davis. When he was 4 he came to Fountain County with his parents and had resided here
continuously since that time. During the CW, Mr. Davis served as a member of Co B 63rd Ind
Vol. In 1869 he was united in marriage to Cassindra Philpott, whose death occurred 25
years ago. The survivors are 3 sons: John of Wallace; Albert of Crawfordsville and
Charles of Kingman. four daughters: Mrs. Lonnie Gooding of Waynetown; Mrs. Minnie Watson
of Wallace; Mrs. Bessie Myler of SIdell, Ill; and Mrs. Lawrence Reed of Raccoon. Ina
ddition there are 27 grandch and 15 greats. Funeral services were held Sat at the Wallace
Christian church, with burial in Sackmire Cem.

Waveland Independent, Feb 13, 1931 -- Mrs. Leland GOODING was in Danville, Illinois
Tuesday to see Mr. Gooding's grandfather, Isaac Davis in the hospital there. His leg
was amputated on Saturday and he died on Wednesday evening. The body was taken tot he home
of Lonnie Gooding near Waynetown, where funeral services will probably be held on
Saturday. He was a veteran of the Civil War and was 88 years old.
