Crawfordsville Weekly Journal Sat March 21, 1891 -- W.W. Wilson was killed a this shop
half a mile this side of Shawnee Mound Saturday afternoon. He was running a feed grinder
at a very high rate of speed when it suddenly broke and the pieces flew in every
direction. One of them struck Mr. Wilson in the eyes knocking him over. Another man in
the building escaped by running. When the feed grinder broke it threw the governor belt
off the engine and it started to run at a furious rate. Then the steam pipe leading from
the boiler to the steam chest broke filling the room with steam and hot water. In the
midst of this horrible scene Mrs. Wilson appeared and with superhuman courage and strength
for she is a very feeble woman, dragged her husband out by the feet. He was hardly
conscious and lived only a few hours. Mr. Wilson was well known over the county as a
local Methodist preacher. He was about 60 years old and has several children, all grown,
among them being Mrs. Frank Goddard.
