Crawfordsville Journal Review Dec 27, 1938 p 8 - Waynetown Dec 26 - Mrs. Rhoda Fruits, 74,
died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. George Cruea, southeast of here ont he yountsville
Road at 10 o'clock Monday monring following a serious illness of 3 weeks duration with
heart trouble. Born in Ripley Twp, near Alamo, Feb 28, 1864, Mrs. Fruits was the daughter
of David and Mary J. Cedars Shaffer. On Feb 16, 1888 she was married to George K. Fruits
who expired on Oct 12, 1919. She spent all of her life in Montgomery and Fountain
Counties. She was a member of the UB Church. Surviving in addition to the daughter at
whose home she died are two daughters, Mrs. Wilbur Smith of Indianapolis; Mrs. Iola
Berryman, Oak Hill, Mo; two sons, Omer Fruits, Rockville, and Walter Fruits, Danville,
Ill; 3 sisters, Mrs. Ella Nixon, Waynetown; Mrs. Sarah Waggoner, Montezuma; and Mrs.
Florence Ruffer, Hornersville, Mo; two brothers, Howard Shaffer, Covington and Wallace
Shaffer, Veedersburg; 11 grandchildren and 3 greats. Funeral services will be held Wed
afternoon at 1:30 o'clock at Waynetown Baptist Church with Rev. JC Overman in charge;
burial in Waynetown Masonic Cemetery.
