Crawfordsville Review Monday May 15, 1916 -- Covington, Ind May 13- Ira L. Parrett a
former resident of Covington brother of Twp Assessor James A. Parrett, has been left a
legacy of nearly $100,000 by Mrs. A. Rippetoe a wealthy Vigo County woman who died
recently. Several years ago when Parrett was living at Fontanet he entered into a fight
and saved the life of Mrs. Rippetoe's husand who was a wealthy retain grocer. Mr.
Parett was int he hospital several weeks. He finally recovered and there has always been
a close friendship between the Rippetoe and Parrett families. The legacy was in
recognition of his bravery in this case. Mr. Parrett left Covington seveal years ago and
took up residence in Terre Haute where he had been practicing law. He has looked after
Mrs. Rippetoe's business since the death of her husband and receently she died and
when her will was opened it was found that she had left nearly all of her estate to Mr.
Parrett, who has been appointed exectuor of the will and has taken charge of the estate.
There are no near relatives. She left $1000 to the Methodist Church in Danville, Ind and
500 to care for her grave. Iral Parrett has many friends in this city and county who will
be glad to hear of his good fortune.
