Crawfordsville Journal Review 4 May 1963 p 10 -- Mrs. Candace E. Cleveland, 86, of 817 S.
Grant Avenue, died at 1:55 p.m. Saturday at her home. She had been ill one week but death
was unexpected. Mrs. Cleveland was the widow of Dan W. Cleveland who started the Cleveland
Bakery on South Grant Avenue in 1906. Mr. Cleveland died in April 1942. Born Jan 25,
1877, near Kingman she was the daughter of John W. and Ann Harvey Marshall. She attended
the Kingman schools and married Mr. Cleveland Oct 1, 1896 at Kingman. Mr. and Mrs.
Cleveland started housekeeping at Kingman moving to Crawfordsville in 1902. Mrs. Cleveland
was a member of the First Christian Church and Circle II of the Christian Women's
Christian Fellowship. She also was a member of the ISD Sewing Club. SUrviving are two
daughters, Mrs. Edward M. Bandel and Mrs. Idell Bruner of Crawfordsville; two
granddaughters, Mrs. Ray Harris and Mrs Paul Maloney and three great granddaughters. In
addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Dewey who died in 1957 and a
grandson, Philip Bruner who died in 1946. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m.
Tuesday at Bright's Funeral Home with Rev. Eugene S. Ogrod, pastor of the First
Christian Church officiating. Burial in masonic Cemetery.
