Crawfordsville Journal Review 20 Nov 1931 - 7 - Mellott, Nov 20 - Noah P. Cleveland, 83,
resident of this place for the past 40 years died at the home of his son Alva here at 3:15
o'clock Friday monring. His illness was of only a little more than a day's
duration. The aged man was downtown with the son with whom he made his home until 9
o'clock Wednesday night at which time the two went home. Upon retiring the elder
Cleveland remarked that he felt exceptionally well physicially. Thursday morning when a
member of the family went to Mr. Cleveland's room to call him for breakfast the aged
man was found unconscious and remained in that state until his death. Paralysis was
believed the cause of death. The deceased was born in Henry County, KY Aug 22, 1848, the
son of Amos and Emeline Cleveland. He was married on March 16, 1875 to Emma Salsbury,
whose death occurred about two years ago. Mr. Cleveland was a member of the Christian
Church at Hillsboro. The survivors include two sons, Albert and Alva, both of Mellott; one
brother, Dan Cleveland owner of a bakery at Crawfordsville; a sister, Mrs. Margaret Ward
of Mellott and 3 grandchildren. The funeral services will be held at the South Christian
Church in Mellott sunday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock in charge of the Rev. J.E. Fry.
Burial will take place in Murray Cemetery southeast of Mellott.
